Ready for renewal in New England

5/23/2015

We don't need to risk our prime agricultural land to generate the energy we need.

Renewable energy projects will deliver quality jobs to regional towns throughout New England, making us self-sufficient for our energy needs.

With battery storage technology transforming our energy market, it is now feasible to develop a 100% renewable grid for mains power.

20 years of activism

I’ve been an activist my entire adult life, beginning with the struggle for Timor Leste in the 1990s, refugee advocacy from 2001, peace marches in 2003 and as a public education advocate since 2005.

Happy to talk, even more willing to listen

PictureOn my feet for NSW Farmers 'Meet the Candidates' in Moree, March 2015. On paper that's a tough gig for a Green, but the night went well and the audience appreciated Greens showing up to take their questions live.
If your local club or organisation is arranging a forum, I'd be delighted to attend. I am always happy to hear community views on the issues that affect us in New England.

During our 2015 campaign, I had the opportunity to represent the Greens at NSW Farmers Federation functions in Moree and Inverell, Armidale Business Chamber, Seniors Australia and Aboriginal Reconciliation Group.

It has been great to meet people throughout the region from a variety of organisations, and I look forward to the next occasion!

Building Greens support from the street level up

I love stalls!

It's remarkable how effective market stalls have been in our efforts to represent the Greens across this region. In Inverell, Glen Innes and Armidale, Greens have managed a consistent presence at monthly stalls and the results show up in polling data and support.

Stalls have also been a great fund-raiser for us, as we always have some merchandise to sell. Just give me a handful of leaflets and point me in the direction of the nearest mall!

By listening to voters' opinions at weekend stalls, I've picked up valuable insights into the motivations and needs of people in our region.

Working for local results with all our Greens MPs

It is a great strength of the Greens that our elected Parliamentarians are so willing and able to make themselves available to meet with our communities, supporters and candidates.

Our recent campaign in Northern Tablelands was graced by NSW Senator Lee Rhiannon and NSW Parliamentarians Dr John Kaye, Jan Barham and Jeremy Buckingham. Dr Mehreen Faruqi provided valuable advice to our campaign on Rural Transport, and David Shoebridge visited in 2014 to support our activists in their efforts to curb illegal logging in nearby NSW State Forests.

As a Greens candidate, I take their lessons to heart every time I hit the campaign trail. My aim is to follow the inspirational example set by our MPs every day of their working lives.
